JAKARTA - The rupiah's recent drop is due to a broadly strengthening dollar and is in line with the weakening of other Asian currencies, Indonesia's central bank governor said on Monday.
"The weakening of our rupiah is understandable because the weakening is due to the strengthening in the dollar - it affected all other currencies in the region," Agus Martowardojo told reporters.
He added that local currency's fall is in line with the weakening seen in other regional peers.
The rupiah has slipped to an eight-month low against the US dollar. It traded at 12,215 to the dollar on Monday.
