Rents for condos rose in January as HDB rents dipped

SINGAPORE - Rents for condominium and private apartment units rose slightly by 0.2 per cent in January from the month before, the Singapore Real Estate Exchange (SRX) said.

Rents dipped 5.9 per cent in January when compared to the same period a year ago.

There were more condominium and apartment units rented in January 2015. An estimated 3,417 private non-landed homes were rented compared to 3,025 units in December 2014. Rental volume for January was also higher when compared to the 2,944 units rented last year.

According to SRX's Rental Property Price Index, rents for HDB flats fell by 0.5 per cent in January from December 2014. Executive flats registered the highest dip of 1.6 per cent, while 4-room and 5-room flats declined 1.3 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively.

When compared year-on-year, HDB rents in January were down 1.6 per cent.

However, more HDB flats were rented in January. SRX says an estimated 1,651 HDB flats were rented in January 2015, a 4.4 per cent increase from the month before.
