TAIPEI - After 11 years, the average starting monthly salary of college graduates has returned to above NT$27,000 (S$1,200), according to a survey released by the Ministry of Labor (MOL) yesterday.
In the ministry's latest survey, the average starting salary of college graduates stood at NT$27,193 a month, up NT$278 from the wage in 2013 but below the average wage of NT$28,016 in 2000.
The MOL conducts an annual survey on the salary conditions in various Taiwan industries. This year's survey was conducted last August and gathered 9,695 viable samples.
According to the survey, the average starting regular salary for all Taiwan employees was NT$25,634 a month, a 1.82-per cent increase from the average in 2013.
Meanwhile, the average monthly regular salary of seasoned professionals was NT$32,448.
Average Salaries
Overall, the average monthly regular salaries of managers and supervisors were highest, while those of basic technical personnel and manual labour ranked at the bottom.
In major companies, managers and supervisors received a higher average monthly wage of NT$66,648 and basic technical personnel and manual labour received an average wage of NT$24,647 a month.
The MOL said that in July 2014, the average monthly regular salary of industrial and service sectors' employees was NT$38,528.
Other average monthly salaries are as follows: experienced professionals earned NT$51,856; technicians and associate professionals earned NT$41,297; clerical support workers earned NT$32,580; skills/machine operators and assemblers earned NT$30,154; and service and sales staff earned NT$25,006.
The MOL believes that an employee's salary is highly relevant to the candidate's level of expertise in the job field.
