TOKYO - Don't be surprised to see more corporate scandals emerging in Asia in the coming years.
A new Nikkei Research survey shows that 66 per cent of Indian white-collar workers, 53 per cent of those in the Philippines and 41 per cent in Indonesia believe their co-workers have "cosy ties with business partners [that could encourage] illicit behaviours such as bribery and inappropriate favors."
In the US, the figure was 14 per cent; it stood at 19 per cent in the UK In both Singapore and China, the other two Asian nations surveyed, the figure was also higher than in the West, at 37 per cent.
White-collar workers in emerging Asia appear to have different value systems from their counterparts in the West. They seem more satisfied with their jobs and highly motivated, even if compliance is yet to be ingrained in their corporate cultures.
