A sleek kitchen island is the centrepiece of businessman Desmond Teo's contemporary executive flat.
The feature, which also includes a sink, is the first thing that guests notice as they enter his flat.
The kitchen island is a feature in some kitchens which adds storage and a place to cook and eat.
"I wanted a luxury feel to my home, and the kitchen island gives the impact.
"At the same time, I wanted something comfortable for me and my family," said Mr Teo, 49, who spent more than $30,000 on his kitchen.
His family of four moved into their executive apartment in Jalan Teck Whye a year ago.
Mr Teo, who has two children aged eight and 11, admits that the family hardly uses the kitchen, but they would occasionally hang out at the table at night.
"It's a comfortable place that I like to come home to," said Mr Teo.
